Trade School is a socially engaged project which scratches below the surface of the economic system to reveal the enigmatic side of the art market. Trading in ideas rather than products, Trade School is a parody of the global marketplace, a tongue-in-cheek enquiry into the ecologies of the art market: notions of value, production, authorship and ownership. The Mechanics Institute artists, Sanné Mestrom and Jamie Hall, test these notions through an itinerant mobile school that features a series of daily workshops, conversations and creative exchanges about “value” in the market place, including the produce market, stock market, black market, “super” market, and of course the art market.
